how to meet societies expectations

who makes these rules?
you have to be a size 2.
size 4!
cut down to 100 calories a day.
eat only salad.
chocolate?
'looking at it makes you gain weight'
'but i like it'
'water tastes better anyway'

buy 80 dollar jeans
and 50 dollar t-shirts
don't wear sweats in public-
you'll never live it down.
don't forget to put on your mask
of mascara and foundation:
hide your true self.

go to the local salon.
ask to look like everyone else
they'll understand.
blond hair will soon be the new you.
if you want to go all the way,
color contacts
will complete the look.

give us your heart,
your soul.
we'll take it.
twist it.
remodel it.
and give it back.
nothing like what it was.
you'll become just another mechanical heart,
operating on automatic.

don't stand up for your beliefs
blend in with the crowd.
they're right:
you're wrong.
remember that.

become one of millions
not one in millions.

That is an amazing analysis. You hit so many different issues that teenagers today face, and all of them extremely true. Your blog caught my attention when I was reading it because it was different than everyone else. For you than to start writing about everyone trying to be the same, and societies expectations of things fit perfectly. I noticed your essay because it was different. Your message shows through so strongly by the way in which you wrote this analysis. If you want to be noticed be different. Since difference is what caught my attention in your blog, difference will catch other people’s attention in person. Great analysis!

Wow, this is an awesome analysis. Your message is so strongly showed and so true. What you're saying about society and how it controls peoples lives to the point at which no one can be themselves without being looked down upon is right on. The style of writing that you chose made this analysis really stand out. It was abrupt and straight to the point which really hit it home. Excellent job.

Great job, i really enjoyed reading this especially because it wasnt the normal everyday essay. It was an easy, eye opening true read. great job. so true. I wish every girl could see these things the way you do. It would make a lot of girls lives easier.

I like how your paper describes all of society and how people conform to it. This seems to be the truth and everyone really wants to look like famous people. You did a great job on this paper.

Clearly your ideas struck a chord with those who should know--your peers. Great use of specific points and examples to show the pressure of conformity. Well done.
